Manufacturing Process Overview

Reaction Injection Molding (RIM)

Meter reactive liquid components into a mold where they polymerize into a finished part.

Advantages
  • Useful for larger parts with moderate tooling pressure
  • Can integrate stiffening structures
  • Good for low-to-mid volume large covers
Limitations
  • Chemistry and process control are specialized
  • Surface finish systems may be required
  • Not a drop-in for all thermoplastic geometries
How it works
  1. Prepare and meter reactive components
  2. Inject into closed mold
  3. Allow reaction/cure
  4. Demold, trim, and finish

Typical fit: Large, stiff covers and enclosures with lower clamp forces than thermoplastic injection
